Happy New Year ClayMotioners!
ClayMotion is back on board after a short break, and until classes begin again the shop hours have changed:
And as always the January School Holiday Program will be running again this year on Wednesday the 17th and 24th with different projects on each day so children can enrol in both for some holiday creative fun.
Wednesday 17th is monster mugs using the coiling technique with applied decoration to create monster features, and the 24th is pinch pot fish with applied decoration to create fish features.

More information on both programs and enrolment information is available in the School Holiday Program page and you can enrol HERE, or drop into the shop.
Also in January the gallery space features an end of year student exhibition so pop in and have a look at what can be accomplished during term classes.
The exhibition will finish at the end of January and will be followed by a new exhibition showcasing new abstract paintings by Dawn Lorraine Lim, a central highlands artist living in Moonambel. Join us for wine and cheese at the opening on Saturday 3rd February.
I am also busy getting in new stock and pottery and art supplies, plus the window is looking fantastic with lots of handcrafted gifts created by local makers, so keep this in mind the next time you need a birthday gift.
And all the dates and times are up for term one pottery and mosaic classes – enrol online, drop into the shop or give me a call.
Have a great weekend everyone 🙂
ClayMotion has been operating from the shop in Ballarat now for a little over a month, and everything is going well – the kiln is connected and operational, new stock is arriving in the way of art and ceramic supplies, the casual studio space is finished and ready for use, and the gallery space looks great.
Another ClayMotion mission is to support local artists and crafters by taking their creations on consignment and displaying them in the shop window. We have some fantastic handcrafted gifts, and more are coming for our Christmas Shopping Night on December 8th from 5-8pm.
Enjoy a glass of complimentary champagne while getting your shopping done and supporting local makers. Gift wrapping will also be available …. so spread the word and share this post with your friends 🙂
In the meantime check out some pics of the new space, and hope to see you next Friday 🙂
Studio Space Hire Ballarat Victoria
We are half way through the term – where did that go?
It has been very hectic moving into the new studio, and waiting for powercorp to connect the new kiln 🙁 so there has been a bit of to-ing and fro-ing to kiln fire works in my home studio – but no breakages, so all is good!!
Mid term enrolments are welcome, and the dates for term 1, 2018 will be up on the website within the next two weeks, so stay tuned.
And remember the ClayMotion shop in Mair Street has some gorgeous handcrafted gifts created by local makers, so keep that in mind for Christmas! And there are art supplies too, for the art lovers in your life.
In the meantime check out these busy pictures from classes so far this term…. happy claying!
Adults Pottery Classes
Kids Pottery Classes
Its Official – we have moved! I haven’t had much time to post about the move on the blog, but have tried to do a bit of a story on the Instagram page. But – yes – we are now in…. classes began this week in the new space, and from now on, this is the space to be!!
And today (Sunday) we are having a grand opening – all welcome – I know it is a bit late notice for blog followers, but hopefully you can make it 🙂
This past weeks classes have been in the new space, with everyone loving the new studio.
Remember that mid term enrolments are welcome for both adults and children’s classes.
And also remember that new classes are being offered this term in Mosaics …. enrolments are open – see the SHOP to enrol 🙂
Services in the new shop will include:
Kiln Firing Service
Locally Made Giftware
Casual Studio Space hire
Ceramic & Art Supplies
I am so looking forward to being in Ballarat and being more accessible to to the community!!
Tonight was the first Tuesday Adults night class for term four. Other classes are on Wednesday mornings and Thursday nights … dates and times can be seen on the CLASSES page or you can ENROL online. Children’s classes start next week… and again you can ENROL online.
But the BIG news is that ClayMotion is relocating – we are moving into Central Ballarat – 34a Mair street to be exact …. which we are very excited about. We love that we will now be more central to the Ballarat community – drive, catch a bus, walk, or ride your bike!
As part of the move we will also be able to offer more services including more class choices, such as mosaics; casual studio space hire; exhibition space; locally made giftware; and a wider range of pottery and art supplies; plus continuing our existing services of birthday parties; firing service; mums and bubs; teambuilding and professional development.
Before moving into the new premise we have had to repaint, remove carpet and build work benches…. followed by moving in all the tools and equipment – a huge job! The first week of classes are being held in the Dunnstown studio, but we plan to be operating in Mair street for week two of classes, and we are well on schedule to do so!
And our first new class for the premise we are offering MOSAICS – this class is a unique blend between pottery and mosaics because students will create a sculpted centrepiece for their piece and build a mosaic around it using ceramic shards – click HERE for more info.
Children’s CLASSES will begin in the new premises, and will be held on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. ENROL HERE
We are super excited about our new development at ClayMotion and hop you are too !!

The term went by so fast with lots of exciting projects underway.

And to finish off here are some pics of some of the finished artworks from this term 🙂
During the week I loaded the car with clay, pottery tools, coloured slips and brushes and hit the road to Ballan to visit the 1st Cub & Scouts in Ballan. Only a 25 minute drive from the studio, it is a very scenic drive when travelling the back way via the Old Melbourne Road.
Insert pic here of Old Melb Rd- oops didn’t take one! Stay tuned for an update when I deliver the finished pinch pots back to the group 🙂
Anyway the brief was to make pinch pots and sculpt them into animals. My suggestion was to then paint them with coloured slips so that the project could be finished in the allotted time – one hour!! It was a tight squeeze, but we did finish in time.
There were twenty six children, so it was a busy hour, but there were a few adults helping out and keeping the project focused, so it ran smoothly. It also ran smoothly because the children were enjoying the activity – which is always half the battle!
Not all of the children were undertaking the activity for the Art and Design Badge as some already had that badge, but of those who were completing this badge they were required to take a worksheet home and recap what they had learnt through a series of questions and drawings. The children were quite attentive so I am sure they will do well.
Stay tuned for a post in couple of weeks showcasing the finished results …. in the meantime here’s what we got up to 🙂
Children’s classes are now underway at the ClayMotion Studio for term three. Some children are returning students and others are new – this is ideal as students in the class are all at different levels and ages, and all work at their own pace. This makes for a relaxed and happy learning environment which is perfect for kids to reach their top potential.
And. yes, mid term enrolments or casual attendance is most welcome – just email or phone me on 0438382522 to discuss your requirements.
And now on to some pics from previous kids classes 🙂
